Awards for the Liskeard Girls Football Club
29.07.12
Sheryll Murray, MP for South East Cornwall, attended an awards dinner for the Liskeard Girls Football Club. The club, which has four teams, attended an Oscar themed award ceremony following a fantastic season.
The club has an FA Charter which means it sets high standards of coaching, administration and child protection outside the Football League and Premier League.
The results show this with the Under 14's making the national finals only being beaten by national champions Southampton.
This year Liskeard were Cornwall League runners-up with the Under 16s winning the County Futsal Championship, going on to represent Cornwall in the regional finals.
This success led to team captain Sophie Woodhouse being signed for a two year contract with Exeter City Football Club.
Sheryll thanked Ian Woodhouse and Adam Sibley, who coach the team, for their hard work. She also thanked Sean Smith from sponsor SAS & Trewartha's.
She said: "The girls are fantastic representatives of Cornwall and have become fantastic ambassadors to the town of Liskeard."
